The injury list keeps growing at AC Milan amidst a hectic schedule

A trio of wingers

AC Milan is struggling with injuries this season as multiple senior players have been sidelined recently. Theo Hernandez, Divock Origi, and Junior Messias have been out with injuries in recent weeks. However, the list has grown further with Alexis Saelemaekers, Davide Calabria, and Simon Kjaer the most recent ones to join the treatment table.

Stefano Pioli is in a difficult position as the games are coming thick and fast. However, multiple senior players are struggling with fitness issues. Alexis Saelemaekers is expected to be out for a long time. The Belgian is likely to return after the new year due to his injury. However, this current crisis is also an opportunity for the fringe players to impress the manager and stake claim to starting spot.

The club has a good squad depth which will help the manager and coaching staff in such a situation. However, the manager will still have to find innovative solutions for some positions as the injuries mount. The right flank has become a point of concern as the players are out injured. Rade Krunic was adjusted to the right flank in the last game against Empoli temporarily. However, a more robust solution is needed.

AC Milan has a host of utility players that can adapt to different positions

The Rossoneri strengthened their squad in the summer in order to try and defend their Scudetto. The club signed Charles De Ketelaere, Aster Vranckx, Malick Thiaw, Divock Origi, and Sergino Dest this summer. Quite a few of the players in the squad are capable of adapting to multiple positions. Divock Origi and Sergino Dest are both capable of playing in multiple positions on the team.

The American international is an ideal solution for the club to solve their right flank problems. Sergino Dest is capable of playing in an offensive role on the right side as well. He can be deployed as a right midfielder or a right winger as well in addition to his accustomed right-back role.

It will be an important opportunity for the American fullback. He is currently on loan at the club and has not got a host of opportunities. If the player wants to impress his new club then it will be the right time to do so. Barcelona has made it clear that the club is not interested to keep Sergino Dest in the long run. Xavi Hernandez has not utilized the player and he is not in the Spaniard’s plans at Barcelona. Thus, if the full-back wants to rejuvenate his career then trying to get AC Milan to sign him permanently is a good option for the player!!
