As per the report of Liverpool Echo, Premier League giants Arsenal have opened talks with Everton for a potential move for their midfielder Amadou Onana. The Gunners have been looking for a new midfielder in with partnership Declan Rice. Everton might be asking for 50M for the Belgium midfielder. Barcelona is also in the race to sign Onana. But it seems like right now Barcelona is not going to pay that much amount to a midfielder.
Amadou Onana joined the Toffees from LOSC Lille in 2022 for a transfer fee of 33M with a five-year contract. The Belgian midfielder had a resurgence since his arrival on Merseyside and established himself as a key figure. The 22-year-old made 72 appearances for Everton over two seasons in all competitions. Onana won two-thirds of his duels with 2.4 tackles and 5.3 recoveries per game. Despite Everton’s low possession, Amadou Onana managed to complete 85 percent of his passes for the Toffees. Onana’s brilliant performance at Merseyside kept him in the 2022 Belgium squad for the FIFA World Cup. Recently he got selected for the national team for EURO 2024.

Former Belgium international Kevin Mirallas praised his fellow countryman’s performance and said,
” Onana has done well on the whole at Everton. It is never easy adapting to the Premier League, but he’s played a lot of games and been an important member of the squad.
I think his potential is huge, and I think when he manages to understand better and utilize his qualities, then he can go on to be one of the best in the middle for club and country.”
Will Amadou Onana Join Arsenal In The Summer?
Thomas Partey’s contract will expire in June 2025. The Gunners are looking for a new young central midfielder who could replace Thomas Partey. Partey is 31 years old and suffered most of his arsenal career with an injury crisis. Partey started only 10 games for the Gunners last season. Arsenal is unlikely to extend Thomas Partey’s contract. Amadou Onana would be a perfect replacement for the injury-prone Thomas party. Apart from that Onana could be an ideal partner for Declan Rice, who sometimes goes forward in the pitch. Onana could add some defensive work to the team.
Everton are reluctant to sell Onana despite having three years left in his contract. The Toffees are going through a financial crisis. The price of Onana will definitely help Everton in their way of financial stability. So, everyone will demand a sizeable fee for the Belgium midfielder, which means Arsenal has to be ready to pay a good transfer fee to get him. Arsenal’s boss Mikel Arteta has a history of signing players from Premier League Clubs since his joining the Gunners in December 2019. Onana will be the next on that list.
