The two priorities of Xavi’s Barca

Barcelona

The Espai Barca project amid the financial crisis at Barcelona has made it difficult for Xavi to operate in the transfer market. The aging squad with promising young talents on their way out due to salary negotiations have just made the situation worse.
For now, Barca can and should focus on the transfer market, thanks to the vote in last week’s assembly to activate the “economic levers”. A careful observation of these newly allocated funds should enable to keep the club afloat
Xavi’s team will have enough funds to sign their priorities while welcoming them with a comfortable salary. In this window, Xavi is mainly prioritizing a striker and a central defender. Other positions need reinforcements too but for now, this is all they can go for.

Barca and their first priority

To fill the striker requirements, Xavi is looking to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich. The player himself wants to move to Camp Nou even with a reduced salary. The only problem with this transfer is the lack of funds.
Lewandowski still has 1-year contract left but doesn’t want to play for the Bavarian giants. He even refused to attend pre-season with the team. It has been long since the parties have been linked with a possible transfer. If the current scenario is undertaken both parties are frustrated with the delay.
According to reports, Barcelona has made an offer of €40 million (£34.5 million) but Bayern values the polish international between £50-60 million.

Bayern is in a very good position and is commanding this transfer. Lewa can still guarantee goals upfront Barca and has lost none of his sharpness over the years.
Barca already has a contract in place with the player and now it’s just a matter of time till the transfer happens.
Lewandowski has been linked heavily with a move to Camp Nou for weeks now. The Blaugrana already have a contract agreement in place with the 33-year-old striker, but Bayern Munich is playing hardball and is refusing to let go of their superstar striker.

Barca and their second priority

Another player who’s a priority for Xavi is Sevilla’s defender Jules Kounde. The Blaugrana’s will be facing heavy competition from Chelsea as they’re looking to bolster their defensive capabilities.
Chelsea has lost Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and Andreas Christensen will very soon be on his way. With Todd Boehly as their new owner, a new era starts for the pensioners with a more aggressive approach on and off the field.
Kounde will cost nothing less than €80 million and with some big horses in the race, the price may even shoot further high.

Although Xavi has a good relationship with Sevilla’s authorities which may help him land the player. Barca can also offer players in exchange as they need to offload players to register new signings.

For Xavi defense is a priority because his back line is aging and Araujo wants to leave due to the salary situation with his new contract. Barca with a little improved financial situation can meet Araujo’s demands but may not offer him a long-term contract. This again is a problem in itself and will need attention in the future which may kill the priorities for another position.
