Timo Werner has completed a transfer to RB Leipzig after agreeing to a pay cut

Timo Werner

Chelsea signed Timo Werner for a massive fee in the summer of 2020 as part of the rebuild. However, the transfer has not proved to be fruitful for the club as per expectations. Timo Werner played 89 games across all competitions for Chelsea and scored 23 goals along with 21 assists.

The numbers are underwhelming when the amount paid by Chelsea is considered. The club signed Raheem Sterling from Manchester City this summer to strengthen their attacking issues from past couple of seasons. Timo Werner saw this as an indication of reduced playing time at Chelsea.

The German international wants to play regular football ahead of the FIFA World Cup in November. Timo Werner has been a regular for Hansi Flick’s Germany National Team this summer. However, the forward believes he needs to play regularly to maintain that position in the National Team.

Timo Werner has returned to RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig has secured the signing of Timo Werner in an attempt to close the gap between them and Bayern Munich in the league. Chelsea will not be able to recover the total investment made on the German talisman but have parted ways with permanently for a fee of around €30 million.

It has been reported that Timo Werner has taken a substantial pay cut from his wages at Chelsea to complete the move to RB Leipzig. The German club is not financially strong as Chelsea in the transfer market due to the restraints placed on them by Bundesliga.

However, the German international was keen to rejoin the club to play regular football. Timo Werner agreed to lower his wages in order to complete the transfer. The German international was one of the highest-paid players at Chelsea, however, failed to deliver the goods as expected.

Nevertheless, fans of Timo Werner will hope that the striker is able to rekindle his form at RB Leipzig and return to the goalscoring exploits he became famous for!!
