According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur added their name to the list for landing Jules Kounde this summer. Tottenham are looking to improve defensively after their poor form at the backline last season.
Kounde rose through the youth ranks of FC Girondins de Bordeaux while appearing 70 times for the French club. However, the center-back exploded into his true ability after his transfer to Sevilla in 2019. Since his debut for the Spanish club, Kounde has appeared 89 times, while scoring 6 goals and 2 assists in all competitions. The Frenchman also played a key role for Sevilla in lifting the Europa League trophy in 2019/20.
The youngster continued his impressive form last season while becoming a regular name in the team sheet for Julen Lopetuigi. Kounde was called by his manager 49 times, in which he scored 4 goals and 1 assist in all competitions. While the Frenchman also helped Sevilla to finish fourth in the La Liga table, and secure a Champions League spot next season.
Following his impressive form in the last two seasons, Kounde has been also called up by France for the Euro 2020. While the Frenchman has also emerged as a hot target in the transfer window this summer. Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Real Madrid are interested in signing the youngster for next season. While another premier league club Tottenham Hotspur has also joined the race for Kounde recently.
The center-back still has two years left in his contract with Sevilla. But the club is interested to sell him following the interest from the elite European clubs. Kounde has an €80 million release clause in his contract. But Sevilla have decided to sell the Frenchman for less than €80 million, following their financial condition.

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a horrific season despite leading the Premier League table in the first half of the season. The north London club finished 7th in the league table missing the spot for the Europa League. However, they will be participating in the new European tournament called UEFA Europa Conference League.
Tottenham are currently prioritizing the situation regarding their manager and striker position. The club is without a manager since April as they fired Jose Mourino due to poor management. While, their star forward Harry Kane is rumored to leave the club this summer, as he desires to play Champions League football next season.
However, the club management is not leaving the issues regarding their backline. Tottenham suffered a lot at the back as they conceded silly goals in the second half of the season. Following which they have listed Jules Kounde as their priority signing this summer for their defensive options.
But, they may have to walk through some tough road to secure the Frenchman’s services. Firstly, Tottenham have to beat the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Real Madrid. Secondly, they have to convince Kounde to give up the hopes of playing in the Champions League next season. And third, Tottenham have to arrange the funds for Kounde wisely, as they have to sign a forward this summer if Kane leaves. So, let’s see if Tottenham Hotspur can land the Frenchman this summer, or the other in the line will land the youngster.
