Triple blow for England : Foden, Palmer and Watkins rules out

England are set to face Republic of Ireland and Finland in the coming Nations League fixtures. They will face Ireland in Dublin and then face Finland at Wembley. This will be the first match for England since Gareth Southgate left the team. Southgate left after failing to win Euro 2024. Lee Carsley has been made an interim coach. Carsley picked up some of the top English players. However Foden, Palmer and Watkins are now ruled out of the squad.

Foden, Palmer and Watkins to miss out for England

Phil Foden was named PFA player of the year. He is ill with a stomach virus which made him miss two Premier League matches. The Manchester City star is still not recovered and hence opted to not join the England squad. Chelsea star Cole Palmer and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins have also came back from England squad. They have joined their club to continue their rehabilitation from ongoing issues.

Palmer has been superb for Chelsea so far. He has scored 1 goal and gave 4 assists in three Premier League matches. Foden has only been able to play 45 minutes so far this season. Watkins has played 3 matches but has been unable to open his goalscoring tally. However, he has 1 assist against Leicester City.

England’s squad for Nations League

Despite missing Foden, Palmer and Watkins, England have a solid squad. They have Dean Henderson, Jordon Pickford and Nicholas Pope as keepers. In defense they have Levi Colwill, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Rico Lewis, Tino Livramento, Harry Maguire and John Stones. In midfield they have Alexander Arnold, Declan Rice, Kobbie Maino, Angel Gomes, Conor Gallagher and Morgan Gibbs-White. Lastly, in attack they have Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke, Jack Grealish, Anthony Gordon, Eberechi Eze and Jarrod Bowen. Squad as per the offical England football website.
