Manchester United are currently looking to fill a lot of positions. The Red Devils are strongly making moves to sign defender, midfielder, striker and right winger. However the club is sensing another position which needs focus which is left back position. Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are quality full backs present in that position. However the duo has been injury prone in the 2023/24 season. Hence, United have turned their attention to sign another full back and are now interested in Bournemouth star.
United’s problems at left back position
Luke Shaw has been a very good servant for Manchester United. The Englishman has been club’s regular starter for the past 10 years. However the 28 year old faced serious injury problems last season which restricted him appearing for only 15 matches across all competitions. Out of those 15, only 12 came in Premier League where Shaw was unable to record any goal or assist.
Same has been the case with Tyrell Malacia who didn’t feature in any of the United matches throughout 2023/24 season. Malacia introduced himself to United squad in 2022 and had a great season in 2022/23 season. However due to injury he had been sidelined and was only seen when United won FA Cup.
United trying to fill the void are linked with Milos Kerkez who has already made 28 Premier League appearances. Before him the Red Devils were linked to Miguel Gutierrez of La Liga side Girona. Real Madrid have clause present in Gutierrez’s current Girona contract due to which he will cost around £34 million to United.
United genuinely interested in Bournemouth star
Italian journalist and football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano told GiveMeSport that United’s interest in Kerkez is genuine. Romano added that there are other options available. However Kerkez fits United’s bill. In addition, Romano said that United are waiting to see other available options but we can definately witness them going for a left back in this market. Earlier Romano tweeted that Bournemouth could demand a high transfer fee for Hungarian as he has stayed at the club for only one year.
Kerkez could be a good addition to the United squad as the Hungarian has already made 28 Premier League appearances. He is only 20 years old and has experience playing in England, Netherlands, Italy and Hungary. In Addition the fullback has made 19 appearances for Hungary national team out of which 3 came in Euro 2024.
Kerkez’s career so far
Milos Kerkez began his senior career at Gyori ETO FC in 2020. After making 16 appearances for the club he caught attention of Paolo Maldini. Probably the greatest defender ever Maldini convinced Kerkez to join AC Milan. Eventually he joined the Italian giants at the age of 17 in 2021. However, he was not able to receive an opportunity to play for them due to the heavy competition. As a result he decided to move to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.
Kerkez made 9 appearances for Jong AZ before making his way into AZ. In his two year spell with AZ, the Hungarian international made 57 appearances across all competitions and has registered 5 goals along with 5 assists. In 2023, Kerkez move to premier league side Bournemouth where he eventually caught attention of United.
Kerkez made 28 appearances for Bournemouth and registered 1 assists for the English club. He had been very good at his age and in his first season at England. The 20 year old has shown a lot of maturity and helped his team both offensively and defensively. United would be pleased if they are able to achieve the services of Hungarian international.
