United sporting director unfolds truth behind Sancho exit

Chelsea signed Jadon Sancho on a loan on the deadline day. Manchester United signed the winger for £73 million in 2021. However, they were unable to get the best out of him. Sancho even spent the half season of 2023/24 on a loan to Borussia Dortmund. Many said that his departure was related to the fall-out with Erik Ten Hag. However, new United sporting director Dan Ashworth told the truth behind the sale of Sancho.

Sancho has joined United’s Premier League rivals on a loan. Chelsea need to sign Sancho permanently next year as they have accepted the obligation to buy clause. According to BBC, the Blues will pay around £20-25 million. Dan Ashworth stated some reasons about why Sancho’s sale makes sense.

United sporting director about Sancho exit

Firstly, Dan Ashworth was asked about if the Sancho’s sale is related to fall-out with Erik Ten Hag last year. Ashworth answered that it has nothing to do with Ten Hag. He added that it was their decision and it was in good interest for both the parties.

Ashworth said that Sancho wanted to explore the opportunity at Chelsea. He added that it is the same as McTominay’s move to Napoli and Wan Bissaka’s move to West Ham. Ashworth made a bold statement that they don’t kick players out of the club against their will.

Lastly, Ashworth said that United have many players who play in the same position as Sancho. He added United have four players who play in wide positions. Being the fifth choice winger can never guarantee you enough gametime. Hence, Sancho’s move away from Old Trafford makes a lot of sense. However, there is a lot of competition at Chelsea too. Infact more than United, so it will be interesting to see if Sancho’s move turns out to be a success or a fail and if the winger is finally able to redeem himself and earn enough gametime.
