Manchester United are desperately in the need to sign new defenders. The club finished the 2023/24 season on 8th position in Premier League. In addition, they conceded 58 goals and finished the season with negative goal difference. Raphael Varane has already left the club as a free agent. Victor Lindelof is set to get sold this summer as his contract will expire next season. United have currently set eyes on Matthijs De Ligt, Leny Yoro and Jarrad Branthwaite. However, out of those three, only De Ligt is close to arrive at Old Trafford.
Along with new signings, Man United need to keep profitability and sustainability rules in mind. They must operate within the limits. It was revealed that the Red Devils are planning to spend a maximum of £50 million for any defender. Matthijs De Ligt fits perfectly in that budget. However, Everton want £70 million for Jarrad Branthwaite. United made initial bid of £35 million for Branthwaite which quickly rejected. Recently they have made another bid of £50 million which is also likely to get rejected. Now, its been reported that the Red Devils have submitted a bid of €50 million for Leny Yoro.
United submit a bid for Leny Yoro
Manchester United have submitted a bid worth of €50 million to Lille. According to Manchester Evening News, Lille have accepted the deal. However, Leny Yoro is not convinced with a move to Manchester. Yoro is giving priority to Real Madrid. The 18 year old admires Los Blancos and is only looking to join them at the moment. In addition, its also been reported that Madrid will offer him an long term contract running until 2030. However, Madrid’s offer for Yoro is inferior to that of submitted by Red Devils. Yet the defender prefers to join the 15 times Champions League winners.
Yoro’s current contract with Lille expires next year. Lille’s former manager Paulo Fonseca predicted that Yoro will be in the one of the best club of Europe. In addition, he said that Yoro is still a kid but has big maturity and big quality. To conclude, Fonseca said that Yoro will be one of the best central defender in the world.
Real Madrid’s offer for Yoro
Real Madrid have submitted an opening bid of €20 million for Leny Yoro which is way less than the one submitted by United. However the player has his heart set to join Madrid. Currently negotiations are ongoing between Madrid and Lille to finalise a deal. Lille want a price higher than what Madrid have offered. However, Madrid are putting pressure by providing Lille with only two options. Option number one is Lille sell Yoro on a discounted price and option number two is Lille lose Yoro as a free agent once his contract expires next year. Madrid have already done this and signed the best player in the world right now, Kylian Mbappe for free from Paris Saint-Germain.
Leny Yoro’s career till now
Leny Yoro joined Lille in 2017. After impressing Lille on different youth stages he signed his first professional contract in January 2022. In May 2022, Yoro made his professional debut which made him the second youngest Lille player in the history after overtaking Eden Hazard.
United target Yoro made 32 appearances in Ligue 1 in the 2023/24 season. The 18 year old was superb in defense and also helped the team offensively by scoring 2 goals. Yoro’s passing accuracy has been 92.2% throughout the season. Yoro won 25 tackles and made 36 interceptions along with winning 104 ground duels and 46 ariel duels. Throughout the 2023/24 season, Yoro didn’t even receive a single red card which shows how mature he is even at the age of 18. Wheter it be Real Madrid or Manchester United, Yoro’s signing will prove extremely important in the future.
