Long time Chelsea target Victor Osimhen is now set to stay at Napoli after the deal collapsed on deadline day.
Chelsea and Al Ahli were the two sides involved in the race for the signature of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. On Friday morning it was pretty much sure that Osimhen would leave Napoli at the end of the day. But some unexpected turn of events towards the end of the day means, he is stuck with Napoli unless if thought realistically, a Saudi Arabian club comes for him in the next two days.
AS DEADLINE DAY HAPPENED FOR AL AHLI
As day broke on Friday, Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli had agreed a deal with Napoli for the transfer of Victor Osimhen. The deal was reported to be worth around €80 million. Al Ahli were convinced that, it was all done on the club side and only a green light from Victor Osimhen was lacking. So they went ahead with the negotiations on player side. The contract offer was lucrative with a sallary of €25 to €30 million per annum which is double than what he was earning now. But when the club and player were in negotiations, Napoli kept changing the terms in the club to club contract. On the other hand Osimhen was stalling with the negotiations as he waited for Chelsea to come up with better proposals.
By noon Al Ahli were fed up with all the drama. So they called up Ivan Toney and told him to get ready for the medicals. Al Ahli had already reached an agreement with both Brentford and the player for the transfer on the previous day. It was already said earlier that it would be either Osimhen or Toney for the Saudi side. So when they proceeded with Ivan Toney deal it was Chelsea or nothing for Osimhen towards the end of the window. During the late hours, precisely 09:55 pm UK time of Friday, Fabrizio Romano put up his iconic ‘HERE WE GO’ for Ivan Toney’s move to Al Ahli.
CHELSEA AND OSIMHEN ON DEADLINE DAY
Al Ahli had backed off from the deal. So it was Chelsea or nothing for Victor Osimhen. Negotiations were happening between the club delegations in Italy and the player. Chelsea delegations were there in Italy for the last three days in order to find an agreement. And on the deadline day they spent the whole day till night trying to find a perfect proposal according to their financial situation and the FFP rules.
Chelsea tried everything they could to find a solution. As per Fabrizio Romano they had put forward at least 5 or 6 new proposals. The proposals was with a fixed sallary and add ons based on Champions League football and player performance. With hours left in the transfer window they had presented their final proposal. But still the entire proposal didn’t reach €11 to €12 million demanded by Victor Osimhen.
Chelsea were confident to reach an agreement with Napoli since they wanted to see Osimhen’s back ASAP. So Whatever Chelsea put forwards Napoli had to accept it. But with no agreement reached on the player side. The deal was completely off by 10 pm ET on deadline day between Chelsea and Osimhen.
WHAT NEXT FOR OSIMHEN?
As it stands Victor Osimhen is stuck with Napoli unless a club from Saudi Arabia, Greece, Portugal, Netherlands or Turkey come for him in the newt two days. Realistically speaking a Saudi Arabian clubs are the only ones who can afford both the transfer fee and wage demands of Victor Osimhen. We can say that greediness from both sides Napoli and Osimhen led the collapse of the deal. Napoli who tried to make more money out of the Al Ahli deal forced them out of the race. On the other side adamant wage demands from Osimhen led to the collapse of the deal with Chelsea.
Now as per Football Italia Napoli has excluded Victor Osimhen completely from their squad. They may also hand the number 9 shirt to Romelu Lukaku as Conte sees him as first option. The only option left for Osimhen is to find an agreement with Napoli for mutual termination of the contract. As a free agent he can sign with any club at any time. But the catch, is he can only be registered when the winter transfer window opens in January. As the relationship between Napoli and Osimhen is completely broken down there is less chance of that to happen
