Victor Osimhen update: Chelsea are now involved in direct talks

There are just two days left for the transfer market to close. Victor Osimhen has been the topic of interest throughout the window. However no club has been able to meet the player’s or Napoli’s expectations. Osimhen was bound to Premier League after failing to secure European football with Napoli. Chelsea and Arsenal were linked with the 25 year old striker. However, the talks always fell short. Napoli has already received a bid from Saudi side. In addition, they have always offered Osimhen huge wages. However, the player is still very young and has a lot to offer in Europe. Recent news say that Chelsea are now back in the race to sign Osimhen in the last days of transfer window.

Chelsea have now signed their 12th player this summer. They have signed Mike Penders for £17 million from Genk. It was looking like Chelsea would go easy in this transfer market due to being on the verge of breaching PSR rules. However, Todd Boehly and Co went in a strong manner once again this summer. They look to sign another striker before the transfer market closes on Friday. The Blues have two strikers in mind. Their first priority is Victor Osimhen whereas their second priority is Ivan Toney. Both of these players are interested to move away from their respective clubs. In addition, Chelsea are also linked with Jadon Sancho. In return they are willing to sell Raheem Sterling to Manchester United.

Latest news regarding Victor Osimhen and Chelsea

Chelsea are now in direct talks with Victor Osimhen’s camp. According to GiveMeSport, Napoli are expecting a bid from London club at the earliest. Napoli have signed Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea and are now eager to part ways with Osimhen. Earlier they wanted £110 million for Osimhen but now are said to have lowered their demands. They have already received a bid from Saudi club. However, Osimhen wants to continue in Europe. Chelsea have already signed a lot of attacking players. They scored 6 goals in their latest Premier League fixture against Wolves. However, they still want to go after a natural number nine who scores on a regular basis.

Along with Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have been long term admirers of Osimhen. Arsenal and PSG are now out of the race giving Chelsea a narrow lead. However, Chelsea are finding it hard to negotiate with both Napoli and Osimhen. They are not ready to pay the demanded transfer fee by Napoli. In addition, recent news reveal that Osimhen wants high wages. Chelsea have set a new wage structure which is pulling them back in the race to sign the striker.

Chelsea’s other transfer plans

Chelsea have Ivan Toney as the backup option if they are unable to sign Osimhen. However, they have to fight against Saudi clubs for Toney too. Earlier, they were reported to have submitted a bid of £35 million. However, Brentford rejected the bid as they want around £50 million for the player. Despite, Toney being in the final year of his contract, Brentford are unwilling to lower their demands. Their position in the market is strong as they already have a bid from Saudi side. The Saudi club has even offered Toney £16 million salary per season.

Other than Osimhen and Toney, recent news reveal Chelsea’s interest in Jadon Sancho. However, they are only willing to sign the player if Manchester United agree a swap deal which will send Raheem Sterling in the opposite direction. Both the clubs are now involved in the talks. Chelsea are set to end the summer transfer window in a strong way and provide Enzo Maresca with an impressive squad for his first season in charge. With these amount and quality of signings, Chelsea’s aim should not be less than the Premier League title.
