In the press conference ahead of their match against Gent, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca asserted the fact that his team is ahead of expectation.
Except the opening day loss to reigning champions Manchester City, Chelsea have put forward and descent performance in all competitions. They are at least getting the desired results. With such an enormous squad at his disposal Maresca could rotate as much as he wants. We saw that during his match against Servette where he gave chances to players on the bench. Chelsea are in the top 4 with four wins and a draw and lose. In the last five matches they have been in excellent form having won four and draws one. Chelsea are set to take on Gent in their opening UEFA Europa Conference League match on Thursday. We will be looking into some of the factors to keep an eye on.
TEAM NEWS AND SQUAD ROTATION
We saw Maresca rotating his squad against Servette in the Conference League play offs. Likewise we can expect him to rotate the squad. Last time we saw players like Mykhailo Mudryk, Marc Guiu and Badiashille starting for Chelsea. We also know that Cole Palmer who has been in sparkling form is absent having been left out of the Conference League squad. The decision which is purely tactical and with so many options it will not be a big problem.
Chelsea will be eyeing nothing less than winning the title. The feat will also make them the first team to win the top three European trophies. Anyway it will not be an easy task as some of the top teams in Europea are also in competition. Enzo Maresca will be expecting that his team will comfortably get past the league phase and by January they can integrate Palmer back into the team for the knockout stages. It is sure that he doesn’t want start with a lose and line up a considerable strong eleven. However we could see Mykhailo Mudryk, Guiu, Filip Jorgensen, Cesare Casadei and Dewsbury Hall are expected get a few minutes. During the press conference Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was asked about Jorgensen putting pressure on Robert Sanchez and he said this:
“I don’t think Filip needs to put pressure on Robert. We need him to play a good game because the team needs that.” Quotes taken from football.london.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall missed out on making the squad against Brighton and when asked about that, Chelsea boss asserted the fact that it was not any problem and was purely tactical. So Dewsbury Hall might get chance against Genk.
CHELSEA BOSS ENZO MARESCA ABOUT MUDYRK AND NKUNKU
Mykhailo Mudryk and Christofer Nkunku were signed as huge players for Chelsea football club then. But as of now they have not made the impact they were expected to make. Mudryk deemed flop by many of the football enthusiasts including some Chelsea fans. Chelsea paid over 80 million pounds for his signature and tied him down to a eight year contract. The Blues expected him to be a replacement for Eden Hazard eventually handing him the number 10 jersey.
“I think Misha started against Wolves in the Premier League. We already gave him some games. He was on the bench the other day.
“They all want to play from the start but that is not possible. I think Misha did very well against Barrow. When you come on, like he did the other day, it is never easy but I think he did okay. Hopefully he can do a good game tomorrow.”
These words from Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca hint at Mudryk playing tomorrow but we don’t know whether he will start or not. Anyway his honeymoon period is over and if he don’t start making valuable impact he is going to be disposed at the end of the season. He was handed some starts at the early stages of the season where he couldn’t perform well enough sending him back to the bench.
Maresca also mentioned about Christofer Nkunku not playing much in the Premier League and need to make impacts while he is on the pitch.
While Mudryk and Nkunku struggle Jadon Sancho has been excellent since making his debut against Bournemouth. Sancho already has 3 assists in 3 games. unlike Mudryk, the Frenchman has scored a goal or two whenever he has been handed a chance. Mudyrk should start doing the same as soon as possible.
