West Brom is keen on signing Aston Villa loanee Conor Hourihane

Aston Villa

West Brom is reportedly showing active interest in Aston Villa loanee Conor Hourinhane as per the report in FLW

The 31-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at Championship side Sheffield United. The midfielder has taken a part in the Blades’ finish in the playoffs, scoring a solitary goal and notching up four assists in 29 league appearances.

According to the report, West Brom is eyeing to make a move for a new midfielder in the summer and their new boss Steve Bruce has identified Conor Hourinhane will be a good fit for the Baggies.

Having been loaned out in the last two seasons and not making a single Premier League appearance for the club since November 2020, the 31-year-old’s time at Villa Park is likely to come to an end. And he might opt to leave permanently at the end of this season.

Will Conor Hourinhane join West Brom this summer?

Conor Hourinhane is currently on loan at Bramall Lane. And if they manage to get promoted to the Premier League through the playoffs route. Then it will be interesting to see whether he will want to stay at Sheffield or not.

On the other hand, West Brom will remain in the Championship for at least one more year after being relegated last season. So, it will be tough for Steve Bruce’s side to persuade the Irishman to join the Hawthorns.

Meanwhile, the midfielder’s current contract with his parent club will expire at the end of this season. And therefore, he will be available for free this summer. The 31-year-old has already had a stint in the Premier League and he failed to impress in a much tougher league.

So, if Sheffield United were to get promoted to the Premier League. Then they might look elsewhere in order to strengthen their midfield. This could open the door for West Brom to sign Conor Hourinhane for free.
