West Ham enquire about Arsenal’s academy product Reiss Nelson

West Ham United are making big moves in the transfer market. Ever since the arrival of Julen Lopetegui, the club has brought in some extraordinary talents. Hammers have signed Wesley Foderingham, Max Kilman and Luis Guilherme until now and are showing no signs to slow down. Recently West Ham enquired about Reiss Nelson. Hammers view Nelson as an important asset to bolster their frontline ahead of 2024/25 season.

Due to the Euro 2024 and Copa America, the transfer market has been very quiet, especially in Premier League. The Premier League champions Manchester City haven’t signed a player yet and same is the case for Liverpool. Arsenal have only made David Raya their permanent player and haven’t yet brought any new player. However, one club which has been making big moves is West Ham United. The London club has already made three new signings and now are monitoring next one.

Julen Lopetegui has been determined to improve West Ham since his arrival. Hammer signed Wesley Foderingham for free as his contract expired this year. Then Hammers brough Luis Guilherme from Palmeiras for £20 million. Lopetegui told club to sign his former captain, Max Kilman. After negotiating with Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers for a while, Hammers finally got Kilman for £38 million. Kilman is also expected to captain the London based club next season. Now, Hammers have set their eyes on Arsenal’s academy product.

West Ham open talks for Reiss Nelson

West Ham have opened talks with Arsenal for their 24 year old winger. Arsenal have been linked with many players. However, they will also need to part ways with some of their existing stars. This will help in making room for new stars along with balancing the financial sheets. One player who Mikel Arteta wants to sell is Reiss Nelson. Nelson has been with Arsenal since his young days but has failed to impress. His current contract with Arsenal runs until 2027, but the Gunners want to part ways this summer and make some profit.

According to Football Insider, West Ham have opened talks with Arsenal. Gunners are demanding around £25 million for Nelson and are not willing to accept less than that. Hammers haven’t submitted any concrete bid yet. Along with West Ham, Fulham, Crystal Palace and Brighton are also interested in the 25 year old winger.

The amount earned from Nelson’s sale will be viewed as pure profit for Arsenal as he is their academy product. This will make their financial side strong and help the club comply with Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules. In addition, Mikel Arteta has no intention to use Nelson.

Reiss Nelson’s career

West Ham target Reiss Nelson joined Arsenal in 2008 at the age of eight. He was highly rated by the North London club. Nelson often played for teams above his age group. He was playing for under-21 team at the age of 17. In 2017, the club decided to include Nelson in first team. Just before that, in December 2016, Reiss Nelson signed his first professional contract.

Nelson made his Arsenal debut under their most famous manager Arsene Wenger. He came on as a substitute in Arsenal’s 2017 FA Community Shield clash against Chelsea. However, Nelson was unable to impress the new manager, Unai Emery. He was sent on a season long loan to Hoffenheim. He returned a year later to Arsenal. However, he was not receiving enough minutes under Mikel Arteta. Arteta then sent Nelson on season long loan once again in 2021 to Feyenoord.

Last year, Nelson signed a contract extension with Arsenal keeping him at the club until 2027. However, he only made 23 appearances across all competitions where he often came in as substitute. Nelson played 15 Premier League matches in 2023/24 season, but only started 1 of it which limited his playing time to only 257 minutes.
