Will Victor Osimhen snub Arsenal and Chelsea?

Victor Osimhen is one of the best strikers in the world today. The Nigerian number nine was brilliant during his time at Napoli and smashed multiple records in the process. His offensive output for club and country in the past few seasons has attracted interest from Europe’s finest clubs. His relationship with the board deteriorated through the last few seasons and a transfer away looked imminent. Chelsea were working closely with the player and his representatives during the end of the transfer window and it seemed as if Victor Osimhen would end up at Stamford Bridge. But, the move collapsed after Osimhen did not accept Chelsea’s final proposal.

It was made clear to him that he was not part of the new manager’s plan and would not get any playtime if he decided to stay. Galatasaray grabbed the opportunity and signed him for a season-long loan. It has been since reported that the contract has a clause to terminate it in January if the player wants and this makes it very interesting. A few reports of Arsenal being interested in the player surfaced online. But before that, It was reported that Chelsea planned to return for the player in January. However, according to the latest news, it looks like he could be on his way to somewhere else.

How Good is Victor Osimhen?

Victor Osimhen moved to Europe in January 2017, he joined Wolfsburg and was loaned to the R Charleroi FC in Belgium’s top division. Wolfsburg never game him many minutes, in the sixteen appearances in for the club he did not score a single goal. After an impressive loan spell, he joined LOSC Lille in France. While playing for Lille, he equaled his goal contribution hall from last season with twenty four goals and assists. He made his first Champions League appearance while playing for Lille and scored two goals in the five games that he played.

His directness in front of goal combined with the potential that he showed at the time, attracted Napoli and they signed the player in September 2020. For Napoli, he has been brilliant. He missed a few games during the first two season due to injury but was a goalscoring machine whenever he was on the pitch. The last two seasons, he transitioned from one of the best in Italy to one of the best in the world. He became the first African player to win the Italian league’s top scorer award. Osimhen was also the driving force behind Napoli lifting the Scudetto after thirty-three long years.

In 133 matches for Napoli, Victor Osimhen has 94 goal involvements. At the age of twenty-five, any club that he signs for will enjoy his prime. He has proven himself in the Italian League, which is infamous for it’s emphasis on defending. The recent development in his transfer saga is about him joining the Saudi Pro League.

Move to Saudi?

According to reports, the Nigerian striker is closer to a move to Saudi than he is to Arsenal or Chelsea. Arsenal and Chelsea are looking for attackers, that is no secret, and signing Osimhen to a long term contract at this age in his career will everyone around the club happy. Both the teams can use a number nine at the moment. Nicholas Jackson is looking better than ever this season and Chelsea might decide to carry on with him. But, Arsenal are desperately looking for a striker even after Kai Havertz’s output last season.

Victor Osimhen is an excellent choice, but he might go to Saudi. If he moves to one of the Saudi clubs, he will definitely become one of the highest earners in world football. That is a great motivator but he can get that Saudi money half a decade later too. Playing for a top European club will do justice to his talent. If the Saudis manage to sign him, it will be another marquee signing for the league. It could ignite a new era of top players choosing to play outside of Europe.
