William Saliba is one of the main pillars of the current Arsenal team. He is the main man of the strong defensive line and a key component behind Arsenal’s success. Gunners are now under pressure of losing him next year as he is being looked upon by Real Madrid.
Saliba joined Gunners back in 2019 but was sent on loan for three consecutive seasons. He impressed the club in 2021/22 season with Marseille where he first caught eyes of Los Blancos. After that season, Saliba came back to North London and gained his place as a regular starter.
Saliba did very well in his first season at Arsenal and was even better last season. He played every minute of the Premier League and was key component to help Gunners finish 2nd in league. Saliba and his partner Gabriel Magalhaes conceded only 29 goals last season in the league which is less than anyone else.
Arsenal under pressure to keep hold of William Saliba
Real Madrid are currently working on improving their defensive line. They are keen to add a defender next season and have identified Saliba as their next superstar. According to le10sport, Madrid have made Saliba their top priority for the next summer.
Saliba signed a new contract with Gunners last year which runs until 2027. This means he will have only two years left next summer and may look to secure his future. Arsenal have no intention to sell him but Madrid are prepared to pay massive fee for the French defender.
Both Madrid and Arsenal have always had the likes of French players in the past and present. Hence, the decision will very likely depend on what Saliba thinks about his future. For now, he will like to focus on their pursuit of Premier League title along with UCL trophy.
Madrid have all the resources to sign a defender as they have not spent big on defender since 2019. Their last major signing in terms of money was Ferland Mendy. Later, they were able to sign David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger on free transfers who both have won UCL with them.
Along with centre defender, Madrid are also keen to sign a right back next summer. For this, they have identified Trent Alexander-Arnold who is in his last year of his current Liverpool contract. One thing we have to appreciate is the smart business done by Madrid board in signing the top talents.
