Florian Wirtz joins Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in a record-breaking £116m deal.
Liverpool Land Wirtz in Massive Transfer Move
Liverpool have completed the major signing of 22-year-old German superstar Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. As per reports, the deal could likely rise to £116m.
The playmaker has signed a five-year deal which will keep him at Anfield until at least 2030. The deal will see the Reds pay Leverkusen a fee of £100m and £16m of performance-based add-ons. So, that will make Wirtz Liverpool’s most expensive ever signing surpassing Virgil van Dijk. The Dutchman was brought in for £75m.
He made his Bundesliga debut at 17 years of age. He was also the youngest-ever goalscorer against Bayern Munich. That was just a mere weeks after his Bundesliga debut.
The Midfielder Aims High as Reds Revamp Under Slot
The German playmaker has made it clear he’s not coming to Anfield just for the ride. He is looking to win trophies with the Reds. He had 57 goals and 44 assists in 197 games for Leverkusen. The player will bring both experience and top talent to Arne Slot’s new-look side.
Last season, he was the Bundesliga’s most efficient dribbler. Meanwhile, Slot led the Reds to a Premier League title in his debut season. That is despite minimal transfer activity. He is now looking focused on building an even stronger squad for the new season.
Sporting director Richard Hughes is overseeing his first full summer window. He has also being in conversations for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez and is on the search for a new centre-back and striker.
The Wirtz signing reflects the intent of the club for this summer transfer window and challenges towards everything next season. With more moves expected, this could be a very busy window for the Reds.
