Wolverhampton look to bolster attack with Leao

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Wolverhampton are holding talks with AC Milan over youngster Rafael Leao. Portuguese media reports that negotiations have reached an advanced phase.

Continuing tradition, the Wanderers have replaced Portuguese with Portguese – Nuno Espirito Santo with Bruno Lage. Lage looks to make his mark on the first team squad at Molineux. With Rui Patricio departing and José Sá filling in, Wolverhampton now target Leao.

Gazzetta dello Sport report that there have been some discussions between the two clubs. Wolves could once again be aided by super-agent Jorge Mendes, who represents the 22-year-old.

Wolves are keen on acquiring on the 22-year-old and have put forth an offer. The bid submitted is €25,000,000 fixed plus €3,000,000 in bonuses. €28,000,000 – close to the amount AC Milan paid to sign him previously.

The Wanderers have a knack for signing for signing Portuguese players. If this deal goes through, they could add yet another highly-rated young star to their ranks.

Leao moved to the San Siro in 2019 from Lille after dazzling in Ligue 1. Since then, his exceptional performances have drawn praise from all sides.

However, the striker struggled to find his form this season. In 40 appearances, he netted 7 times and assisted a further 6. A respectable return, but nothing very spectacular given his impressive capability.

The AC Milan forward has proven himself time and again. A move to the Molineux could be ideal for his development.

Wolves have established their reputation for quick and effective counter-attacking play. They have hurt many defences when hitting on the break.

Leao’s natural pace and power combined with Jiminez’s composure and finishing would form quite a fearsome partnership.
