World cup winner and one of the greatest midfielders of all time almost joined Manchester United in 2014. But, the deal failed and English football fans were unlucky to witness him in Premier League. The name of the player is Toni Kross who then joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich and established himself as the football great.
Kross left Bayern in 2014 after winning world cup with Germany. He joined Real Madrid where he reached legendary status. Kross won 5 champions league titles with Real Madrid. He also won 4 La Liga titles, 4 UEFA Super Cups, 5 Club World Cups, 4 Spanish super cups and 1 Copa Del Rey with Los Blancos.
Kross played 465 matches for Real Madrid and was able to pick 28 goals and 92 assists. He retired this summer after playing for Germany in the Euro 2024. His storyline could have been very different if the move to Manchester United was able to reach the final destination.
Toni Kross was close to becoming Red Devil in 2014
Kross said that he agreed to play for Man United before making a move to Real Madrid. He added that would have been a move from Bayern to United.
Kross was talking with David Moyes and they both agreed upon the move. But United sacked Moyes which resulted in the failure of German midfielder’s move to Old Trafford. Kross said that he politely declined the offer after Louis Van Gaal joining United.
David Moyes also talked to talkSPORT in 2018 about this story. He said that Toni Kross agreed to come to Manchester United with him. The manager met Kross and his wife and they agreed upon everything when Kross was still playing for Bayern.
If the deal was completed, we could have seen mixed results. Either Kross would have helped United to flourish and reach new heights or maybe he would have not been able to reach the personal milestones if had moved to England. As of now, Kross seem to have got a good end of the deal as he became the club legend at Real Madrid.
