Man United Target Atalanta Shot-Stopper To Replace Onana

Premier League 2025-2026

Manchester United are reportedly looking at Italian keeper Marco Carnesecchi as a possible replacement for Andre Onana.

Carnesecchi on United Radar as Onana Struggles Continue

Man Utd’s hunt for a more reliable goalkeeper is still on. Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi is a prime target at the moment. The Red Devils are likely to make big changes in their goalkeeping ranks this summer.

Their current No.1, Andre Onana joined from Inter Milan in 2023. It has been quite a mixed bag in terms of how his first season has begun. Onana has arguably shown glimpses of being a good distributor, but he has struggled to find consistency.

In the meantime, backup keeper, Altay Bayindir looks set to depart after being unused in the Premier League. New boss Ruben Amorim wants more control at the back. So, Utd’s eye has turned to Carnesecchi. The 23-year-old Italian is calm, makes decisive saves, and is great in the box.

United’s Goalkeeping Rebuild Is Underway With Serie A Star

Carnesecchi kept 13 clean sheets in 34 games last season. He has recently signed a new contract with Atalanta, which keeps him at the club until 2028. He’s valued at over €40m (£34m). Meanwhile, Atalanta aren’t in a rush to sell. But, Utd’s interest might open the door for talks. In addition, Onana is also attracting attention from Saudi clubs.

Man Utd have a transfer history with Atalanta. They have signed Rasmus Højlund from them in a £72m deal last summer. Now, they may return to Bergamo for another major signing.

However, fans are asking questions. They’ve seen enough of hit-and-miss transfers. They know the team can’t afford another misstep. Whoever occupies the No. 1 jersey for United needs to be ready to go, from day one.

The Red Devils want to work through another tough season. So, the decision between the posts could make all the difference.
