Pogba Makes Emotional Comeback with Monaco After Doping Ban

Ex-Manchester United star Paul Pogba seals return to football after doping ban with Ligue 1 side Monaco.

Pogba Signs for Monaco in Emotional Comeback

Paul Pogba has officially made his return to football after signing a two-year contract with French side AS Monaco.

He has finished the 18-month period away from the game after being suspended for a doping charge. You could see the emotion on his face as 32-year old midfielder signed the papers. This marks the French World Cup winners’ return since August 2023.

He was originally handed a four-year ban. But, his suspension lasted 18 months through an appeal to the Italian anti-doping tribunal. He was able to return to the game only a few months later in the year. His contract was mutually terminated by Juventus in late 2023.

Although, he teased a possible comeback to Man Utd and was drawing interest from other European clubs. However, Pogba has now joined Monaco. This marks his first time signing with a club in his home country.

Fresh Start at Home After Career Setbacks

Monaco confirmed the deal by announcing Pogba’s arrival as a big boost to their squad following a strong Ligue 1 season. The move is a fresh chapter for the Frenchman. Also, it is a shot at redemption after a tough few years.

Since rejoining Juventus in 2022 on a free transfer, his career had been derailed by injuries and the doping scandal. He was found with traces of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a substance that increases testosterone. Pogba claimed it was unintentional. That was a position that helped reduce his ban.

This midfielder has 91 appearances for France and a World Cup trophy. Now it is about making the top-level comeback. He had two stints with Man Utd. His second period was not great but highlighted moments of pure magic. Now with Monaco, he has a chance to rebuild that reputation.
