Newcastle United’s latest signing to help Man United financially

Newcastle United are very close to sign Premier League winger. The player used to play for Man United in the past. Since leaving United, he has looked very good and is now getting picked by Magpies. This deal will still be able to help the Red Devils financially.

The star in question here is Anthony Elanga of Nottingham Forest. They signed him in summer 2023 from Man United. The Sweden international was unable to establish himself as key player for United. Hence, he was sold despite him coming through their academy.

However, Elanga has bounced back since joining Forest. In the 2023/24 season, he was able to score 5 goals and pick 9 assists in 39 games. His performances have gone even better in recent season. He ended the 2024/25 season with 6 goals and 12 assists in 43 games.

Elanga attracted lot of interest from top clubs. The club that showed most interest are Newcastle United. Eddie Howe is keen to add quality attackers and has identified Elanga as top target. The Magpies are now very close to sign him despite their first bid getting rejected by Forest.

How will Newcastle United signing Elanga help Man United?

Firstly, Newcastle tried to sign Elanga for £45 million. But, that bid was rejected by Forest. The Magpies were unwilling to give up and made second bid. According to Daily Mail, their second bid of £50 million plus £5 million add-ons is now close to being accepted by Forest.

Earlier, it was revealed that United have sell-on clause in Elanga’s contract. The Daily Mail have revealed that the Red Devils will earn 15% of the total profit made by Forest. United sold Elanga to Forest for only £15 million but were very smart to include sell-on clause.

Forest will recieve £55 million in total from Newcastle. Hence, their total profit on the sale will be £40 million considering the initial £15 million they spent whilst signing. United will then earn 15% of £40 million which is £6 million. This is not too much but will surely help them during this tough financial period.
