One Chelsea youngster is being looked upon by Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur. The Blues are said to cash-in on the player if a right offer arrives. The player signed new contract only at the end of last year but is unable to get into Enzo Maresca’s starting lineup.
The star in question here is 19 year old Josh Acheampong. He plays as right back and has came through Chelsea’s academy. Acheampong was said to have fallen out of favour due to his contract situation. He was refusing to sign a new contract which limited his playing chances.
Later, it was all sorted and Acheampong signed a new contract. But, he is unable to establish himself as a regular starter. Enzo Maresca has Reece James as his first choice right back. The Englishman has Malo Gusto as his backup. Hence, this makes Acheampong third-choice right back for the Italian coach.
The Blues have signed multiple players since their takeover. Hence, they were on the verge of breaching PSR. But, they have done a very good job to avoid this due to selling academy players. The Blues are now said to do the same with Josh Acheampong who is wanted by 2 Premier League clubs.
Chelsea to part ways with Josh Acheampong?
Former Premier League scout Mick Brown opened up about Acheampong while talking to Football Insider. He said that the Blues have to make some big decisions this summer. He added that at this time in window agents talk about the future of players.
Acheampong has been attracting interest and Brown thinks that Chelsea are trying to drum up interest in him. Later, he added that the 19 year old is unlikely to play regularly under Maresca. Hence, Chelsea can opt to sell him and register pure profit from his sale.
Lastly, Brown said that Acheampong is wanted by Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. These clubs can surely give more game time to Acheampong than Chelsea. The Blues will surely demand a hefty fee and it will remain to be seen if any club moves ahead in pursuit.
