Brentford increase price tag for 20-goal star Bryan Mbeumo. Manchester United’s pursuit faces another hurdle as the Bees raise the bar once again.
Brentford Hold Firm on Mbeumo Valuation
Brentford have reportedly upped the asking price for their star forward Bryan Mbeumo. This comes following continued interest from Manchester United.
The Red Devils have already had two bids turned down. The last was around £62.5m and believed that £65m would seal the deal. However, the Bees have now increased their valuation to closer to £70m. This is despite Mbeumo expressing his desire to move to Old Trafford this summer.
The attacker reported for pre-season training earlier this week. He is showing no signs of forcing a move. The London club remains firm in talks. They are aware of the option to extend his current contract by another year.
Brentford are confident that Mbeumo’s value justifies their stance. Man Utd are under pressure from fans to bounce back after a poor 15th-place league finish.
United Staying Cautious in the Market
While Brentford stand strong, Utd are showing no signs of panic. The club’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is unwilling to be drawn into a bidding war. He maintains that the club won’t pay over the odds. So far, the only major signing at Old Trafford is Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million.
Still, the hunt for Mbeumo is very much alive. Reports suggest Utd are hopeful of wrapping up a deal before heading to the U.S. for their pre-season tour. Through all of this, club officials still have it in their heads that even if the transfer doesn’t happen in time, they can still sign him during the tour.
Red Devils will start the PL season at Old Trafford against Arsenal. They’ll also visit Brentford at the end of September. That could potentially set the stage for an early reunion, should the transfer go through.
