Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez is “hoping for a call” from Manchester United.
Emi Martinez Ready for United Switch Amid Onana Struggles
Manchester Utd‘s search for a new goalkeeper may be close to a breakthrough. Emiliano Martinez is reportedly eager to join the Red Devils.
As per Fabrizio Romano, the Aston Villa shot-stopper is waiting patiently for Man Utd to make a move. This news comes at a time when there is uncertainty about the future of Andre Onana. His second season was filled with errors at Old Trafford.
Utd had a poor season and finished the PL campaign on 15th in the league. They also failed in securing a European spot for the next season. That is something that has only happened once before in this century. Head coach Ruben Amorim is now looking to rebuild his team. It is clear that getting a dependable, top-class goalkeeper is a priority.
Martinez won a World Cup with Argentina and certainly fits the bill perfectly. He has the experience and composure that Red Devils now need between the posts.
Villa Star Open to Exit
Martinez has had another solid season with Aston Villa. But, he may now be open to moving on. Villa failed to secure UCL football as well. So, that makes it difficult for them to retain their star goalkeeper. The keeper has been a rock for Villa ever since joining from Arsenal. He has only missed 9 Premier League matches in five seasons.
Martinez changed Villa from a relegation candidate to a top side under Unai Emery. Although, he is set to miss the first three games of next season due to a red card received against Utd.
If United do come calling, it would be a big step forward in their summer rebuild.
