Manchester United have wrapped up their second major signing of the summer as Bryan Mbeumo puts pen to paper on a five-year contract.
United Secure Mbeumo in £65m Deal
Manchester Utd have sealed the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a major summer boost for the club.
The forward has agreed to a five-year deal with an option for a sixth. He is joining after long weeks of transfer talks. Reports indicate that the deal sees Mbeumo leaving Brentford with a £65m fee, plus £6m in potential add-ons.
After finishing a disappointing 15th in the league last season, the Red Devils knew they had a goal-scoring problem. So, they are in need of firepower ahead of the new season.
He is the second signing of the summer after Matheus Cunha. Cunha arrived from Wolves following a 15-goal campaign. Mbeumo’s medical was completed on Sunday, and the deal is all but official.
Forward Chose Man Utd Over Spurs and Newcastle
Mbeumo had a number of suitors this summer. Those including Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. But, he chose Old Trafford as his destination. He clearly has trust in Ruben Amorim’s project, as the head coach looks to rebuild the squad. He hopes to get back to Europe.
Last season, Mbeumo was one of the better finishers in the league with 20+ goals. And only Erling Haaland, Mo Salah, and Alexander Isak finished with more goals. That kind of attacking threat is exactly what United lacked. Only Everton and the relegated clubs scored fewer goals than the Red Devils last campaign.
However, Utd still need a striker to bolster their attacking line. The combined firepower of Mbeumo and Cunha (35 goals last season) already brings fresh hope. Fans at Old Trafford will be expecting a lot from their new man when the season kicks off.
