Former Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to make a shock return to a club he briefly called home.
Aubameyang Eyes European Comeback
After being a fan-favourite and club captain at Arsenal, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is making headlines again with his return to Marseille.
He left the Gunners in 2022. The striker has been on a tough ride of four clubs in three years. He had a short spell on loan at Barcelona. Then, he was at Chelsea where he struggled for game time and didn’t find his form.
Then, he went to Marseille, before a move to Saudi Arabia with newly-promoted Al-Qadsiah. There he continued to find the back of the net, scoring 21 goals and helping the Saudi side finish 4th. Even with that solid record, both parties agreed to part ways. The forward is likely preparing for a second spell in France with Marseille. He is suggested to have signed a two-year contract as well.
UCL Ambitions Behind the Move
Aubameyang’s has turned down an offer from Saudi side Al-Ettifaq. This shows his intent to compete at the highest level once again.
As per journalists Santi Aouna and Fabrizio Romano, the deal with Marseille is verbally sealed. The opportunity to play in the UCL was key part in his decision. He’ll once again have a chance to play at the big stage. There he might face off against his former clubs Chelsea and Arsenal.
Marseille is back in Europe’s biggest competition for the next season Players including Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes, Neal Maupay, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, and Ismael Bennacer all are trying to make a new beginning at Marseille. They also had their own stints in the PL in the past.
Aubameyang obviously brings experience and offensive capabilities to the table. The fans will be hoping to see him perform on the European stage one more time.
