Arsenal were offered £100k-a-week Chelsea’s striker Nicolas Jackson instead of Gyokeres.
Gunners Snub Chelsea Forward Amid Gyokeres Chase
Arsenal have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson. But, they have decided not to follow through.
According to HandofArsenal, the approach came via the player’s agent, Ali Barat. Ali reached out to the Gunners’ camp. But, the North London side has rejected the proposed deal. The club only wants the signing of Viktor Gyokeres and they are getting closer to agreeing a deal with the striker.
The player is said to have already agreed on personal terms for a five-year contract. Head coach Mikel Arteta wants a strong forward to boost their title hopes. Given that, the club has made it clear that Gyokeres is the man they want leading the line next season.
Jackson To Leave but Arsenal Is Not His Destination
Nicolas Jackson currenly earns £100,000 a week at Chelsea. He could still be on the move this summer. Although, he has a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033. But, the Senegal international may be on his way out. With Liam Delap and Joao Pedro now in the squad, Jackson’s chances of starting regularly have taken a hit.
Jackson scored 10 goals and five assists in the PL last season. He added more three goals in the Conference League as well. While those numbers aren’t too bad, Arsenal obviously felt that Jackson is not the man they want. This is especially after signing a number of Chelsea players in recent years including Jorginho, Kai Havertz and Noni Madueke.
The Gunners are keen to avoid short term fixes at the moment. They are focusing on getting a consistent, physical striker. While Jackson may still get attention from other clubs, a move to the Emirates is now off the table.
