Former Arsenal Skipper Eyes Shock Sunderland Return

Ex-Arsenal star Granit Xhaka wants a surprise move to Sunderland. His agent is confirming the midfielder’s desire to return to England.

A PL Return For Xhaka ?

Former Arsenal skipper, Granit Xhaka has played over 300 matches for the Gunners. Now, he wants to come back to the PL.

He currently plays for Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen. The midfielder is reportedly lookin g for moving to Sunderland. His agent, Jose Noguera confirmed that as well. Although, there is a big offer to join Saudi side NEOM SC too. However, he is aiming for a deal with the Black Cats.

Xhaka is contracted to Leverkusen until 2028 so it is in Leverkusen’s and the player’s interest to come to the table quickly and agree a deal. He has been one of the leading players for the German club. He has played over 99 matches for Leverkusen so far.

Sunderland Confident To Get The Former Arsenal Captain

Sunderland are fresh off strengthening their midfield with Habib Diarra. They are looking to add more experience and steel in the centre of the park. Xhaka’s name is at the top of that list.

Although, a move is not going to be simple given the player has a long-term contract. And he is a key player for Leverkusen. However, the Black Cats are positive. So far, talks are going fine. This is due to the fact that players and club respect and admire Xhaka mutually.

Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is now the new head coach at Leverkusen. He doesn’t want to lose more key players following the sale of Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz to Liverpool.

However, with Xhaka wanting a new challenge and Sunderland willing to take a swing, the door is open. This would be one of the most surprising and bold signings of the summer transfer window.
