Former Arsenal player Aaron Ramsdale is in the news again as he finds himself again in Newcastle United’s sights.
Newcastle Return for Former Arsenal Shot-stopper
Aaron Ramsdale is back in the spotlight ahead of the new season. Reportedly, Newcastle United are reigniting their interest in bringing him to St James’ Park.
The club, managed by Eddie Howe, is believed to be seeking a goalkeeper comfortable with the ball at his feet. He wants someone who can offer competition to Nick Pope. Ramsdale has had an impressive spell at Arsenal. But, he was pushed down the pecking order by David Raya. So, he is now a suitable option.
Raya’s permanent move from Brentford effectively closed the door for Ramsdale to reclaim his starting role in North London side. The Magpies are looking to find a way to improve their squad. It appears that there is some momentum with a move for the Englishman. Ramsdale’s PL pedigree and ball-playing skills are likely appealing. Howe’ side are trying to push further up the table and back to UCL football.
Ramsdale’s Prior Response Raises Eyebrows
This is not the first time Ramsdale has been linked with a move to the Magpies. Last year, reports emerged about Newcastle could be making a move with a £15m bid. Although, Ramsdale was quick to dispel the rumours via social media. It was a rare social media post for Ramsdale. But, it made a statement about his wish to remain and fight for his place at Arsenal.
However, the tables turned, and instead of joining the Toons, he found himself at Southampton. Unfortunately, it turned into a poor season as the Saints dropped to the Championship. He has the ambitions of making England’s 2026 World Cup squad. That said, a return to PL football is key for him. Newcastle’s interest offers him a way back to the top level.
