United Get the Green Light for Donnarumma
Manchester United have been handed a big lift in their chase for PSG shot-stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
French champions are already bringing in Lucas Chevalier to eventually replace the Italian. It seems likely that the goalkeeper is leaving the Ligue 1 club this summer. Donnarumma has been a big part of PSG squad, and had contributed to winning the league title and UCL as well.
Now, Manchester Utd are looking for a strong replacement for Andre Onana. Given that, Donnarumma looks to be the name at the top of their list. His club teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia even called him “extraordinary.” It’s no surprise that the Red Devils are making moves to get his signature.
Battle Brewing Between Manchester Giants
But, it’s not a free run for Man Utd. As per L’Equipe, rivals Manchester City are also keen on bringing the shot-stopper to EPL. Meanwhile, there are doubts over Ederson’s future at the moment. Pep Guardiola may also be in the market for a new No.1.
Both English clubs have the cash to pull off the move. However, City’s ability to offer UCL football and a regular shot at silverware gives them the edge on paper. For the Red Devils, they are currently in a rebuild mode under Ruben Amorim. They will miss out on Europe next season as well. That could make their pitch to Donnarumma more about being the face of a new project.
Now, Luis Enrique’s side are already looking for options. So, Donnarumma has to make a key decision. At his age and because of his own technical abilities, the player will want to play and be in the highest levels. Whoever lands him will be signing one of the most complete keepers in world football today.
