Chelsea Close in on Ajax’s Jorrel Hato as Transfer Nears

Chelsea are closing in on a big defensive transfer, with Jorrel Hato now on the cusp of a deal. After new direct discussions with Ajax today, negotiations have obviously reached an advance stage and the Dutch sensation is said to be on standby to jet in and sign once the all-clear has been given.

And the Blues have been quick and decisive in their actions, with sources announcing a near “here we go” moment.

Deal at the Finish Line

Chelsea pursuing Hato is nearing it’s final stage. Negotiations with Ajax have stepped up in the last 48 hours, and following today’s discussions, both clubs are now on the verge of agreeing a deal. The parties still need to finalise a few contract details before completing the deal, but everyone expects to reach an agreement within days—if not hours.

The 18-year-old Dutch defender, who can also play as a left-sided centre-back or full-back, has been on Chelsea’s radar since late last year. His understanding of defense, offensive knowledge and leadership considering his age put him in a group of most sought after defensive prospects in Europe.

Ajax were originally refusing to sell, but a combination of Chelsea’s dogged chasing and an offer very hard to refuse has helped to convince the Dutch club to give the move the final go ahead, despite interest from a number of other top clubs.

Medical and Signing on Standby

Now there’s just the small matter of an official green light from Ajax before Hato can fly to London. Chelsea have already set up Hato’s medical, contract signing, and formal announcement, and they plan to integrate him into Enzo Maresca’s squad early in pre-season training.

This move marks yet another audacious step in Chelsea’s youth-first transfer policy since coming under new ownership, adding another high-ceiling starlet to a growing bank of under-21 talent ready for the future at Stamford Bridge.
