Manchester United are plotting a summer swoop for Bundesliga goal machine Nick Woltemade. The club steps up efforts to bring in a new striker.
Bundesliga star on United radar
Nick Woltemade has been seen as one of the Bundesliga’s top performers last season. This is following a good campaign at Stuttgart. He has got serious interest from a number of top clubs.
The forward has scored 17 goals in 33 matches. He has great finishing ability and movement of the ball inside the box. Man Utd has now placed the Germany U21 international on their list, as per journalist Katherine Walsh.
Woltemade is seen as a serious target. The Red Devils are watching Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins as well, to play upfront. His performances at the U21 Euros will certainly have added more to his name further. He ended up as the top scorer in the tournament with six goals.
Stuttgart’s valuation of £40m may seem excessive, but it gives how talented Woltemade is in European football.
Transfer battle brewing
While Bayern Munich were once leading the race for Woltemade, they have backed off due to the price tag. So, that has opened the door for Man United and other suitors. Newcastle are also tracking the striker, especially with Alexander Isak likely heading for the exit.
That puts United and Newcastle in direct competition for not just Woltemade, but also RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko. The Red Devils remain focused on Sesko as their first choice. Although, the delay in his decision has prompted the club to weigh other options.
Ruben Amorim is looking to sharpen up his attacking unit and wants fresh energy up front. Woltemade, who is on contract until 2028, has an eye for goal and is hard working and fits the bill.
It has been made abundantly clear that United are keen to strengthen their attacking options, nonetheless, the Stuttgart striker is very much on the wish list.
