Rennes star turns down Arsenal

Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet has decided against a move to Arsenal this summer. This comes despite a strong approach from the PL side.

Despite Arsenal interest, Rennes starlet stays put

Arsenal’s hopes of signing Jeremy Jacquet have taken a hit after the young French defender has turned down their offer, as per Santi Aouna.

The youngster is current centre-back for Rennes. The Gunners had reached out to the French side earlier for him in the transfer window. They are looking to add some fresh young talent to Mikel Arteta’s defense.

However, Jacquet looks to have other ideas. He has recently signed a new contract to remain with Rennes until 2029. He had a breakout season where he returned from his loan at Clermont Foot. The player immediately made an impact in Ligue 1. His decision is not surprising. He played in 11 matches after returning in February and showed maturity beyond his years.

Jacquet’s Future Still Bright

Though Arsenal’s strategy may not have been fruitful, Jacquet’s name continues to grow. He is very highly regarded in France. Rennes are now in strong position with the player’s new long-term contract. They are in no rush to sell him anytime soon.

Jacquet made his senior debut earlier this year against Nice. Meanwhile, the Gunners have already spent a huge £180m on new signings. Still, they are busy looking for more in the transfer market.

It is almost as if Jeremy Jacquet’s decision for now is to remain in the Ligue 1. Whether or not Arsenal come back for him in the future remains to be seen.

However, the North London side will likely try again to sign him in the near future. His commitment to improving is the one that assures he is not getting ahead of himself for now in France.
