Arsenal are taking a patient approach with young winger Max Dowman, despite an great pre-season showing.
Cautious Approach for Max Dowman
Max Dowman is already turning heads during Arsenal’s pre-season games. The teenager has impressed under Mikel Arteta recently. He is showing his talent while facing experienced senior players.
Still, as per journalist Graeme Bailey, Arsenal have no intention of fast-tracking Max into regular first-team football just yet. The club understands the level of intensity the games have and are taking a long-term view of the youngster’s progress. The player’s growth will continue carefully, away from the weekly from the PL.
Alongside Dowman, fellow academy talent Marli Salmon also travelled with the senior squad and is being closely monitored. Salmon has got early comparisons to William Saliba thanks to his calm and quality in defence.
First Team Dreams on Hold for Now
The fans may be eager to see Dowman in the first team as soon as possible. But, the Gunners are making it clear that they won’t rush his journey. Bailey reports that Dowman will be kept away from serious first-team action for now.
Meanwhile, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Noni Madueke will be fighting for spots on the wing. That said, there’s very less room for a new player to step in. The Gunners are even looking to make a move for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. They want to add more strength to their options in front ahead of the new season.
The North London side have spent heavily this summer. They have brought in big names to improve their squad depth under head coach Arteta. The boss will be aiming to clinch the PL title this time after coming very close in the last two attempts.
Now, Dowman’s focus will remain on improving with the youth teams. They will keep developing his talent under the radar without giving too much work load on to his young shoulders.
