Chelsea’s new defensive signing Jorrel Hato has opened up about his first days at the club following his high-profile switch from Ajax. The 19-year-old Dutch international signed a seven-year contract earlier this month in a deal worth €44.18 million (£38.3 million), with Ajax also securing a sell-on clause.
Jorrel Hato Excited to Start New Chapter
Hato revealed, “My first impressions at Chelsea are very good. During the transfer talks, I already felt it was a very welcoming club that suited me well.” The 19-year-old claims it is the ideal environment and ambition at the club to help him take his game forward. He also gave a lot of credit to the coaching staff and they facilities, saying that he felt right at home.
He has also revealed some light on how he informed the national team with his move: “I spoke with the national coach, told him I wanted to move to Chelsea, and explained why. The PL is the best competition in the world. And just like against Germany and Spain, I can compete with the best of the best players there. And I’m ready to take on that challenge.”
Focused on Football, Not the Fee
While the transfer commanded a significant fee, jorrel Hato remains humble: “Being sold for that amount is, of course, good for Ajax, because it helps the club financially. But I don’t see myself as the ‘Man of 44 million,’ you know. To be honest, I don’t really care. It means very little to me.” Ajax benefit financially, but Hato’s focus is purely on performance and competing at the highest level.
The teenager could make his debut this month as Chelsea gear up for a packed early-season schedule. Fans are eager to see how he adapts to the pace and intensity of the Premier League, and Hato himself says he’s ready to prove himself in every match, showing maturity beyond his years.
