Chelsea tracking Sporting CP striker amid Jackson saga

Chelsea have reached out for Sporting CP striker while Bayern’s move for Nicolas Jackson hangs in the balance.

Sporting CP striker on Chelsea wishlist

Chelsea’s plans up front have been thrown into total confusion. Nicolas Jackson was set to pack his bags for Bayern Munich, but Liam Delap’s injury against Fulham ripped up the script. Delap is now sidelined for weeks. That has forced Enzo Maresca to rethink his striking options at the very last moment.

As per David Ornstein, Chelsea have already made contact with Sporting CP over Conrad Harder. The Blues don’t want to lose Jackson on a temporary deal either. If he goes, it’s only on a permanent basis.

The west London side is making it’s move in this window deadline. They have little care for how Bayern might feel.

The Blues must solve the striker puzzle

For Jackson, the situation is messy. He’s already agreed personal terms with Bayern and even flew out to Germany. But, Chelsea pulled the brakes before his medical. Now, the club is caught in limbo, scrambling to bring in Harder or another forward before the deadline shuts.

Joao Pedro is likely to lead the attack regardless. But, Maresca knows he can’t risk another shortage up top. Even against Fulham, Chelsea had to turn to youngster Tyrique George to fill in as a false nine. The depth in the squad is little to none.

Harder’s arrival could free Jackson to finally link up with Bayern. But, until ink hits paper, Stamford Bridge could see plenty of uncertainty. With hours left in the window, Chelsea’s striker hunt is shaping up to be one of the wildest subplots of the summer.

Author’s Opinion:

Chelsea are playing a dangerous game. If they fail to land Harder, they’ll be stuck with an unsettled Jackson and thin cover in attack. The club needs to act fast, or this risk could backfire.
