Chelsea made last-minute approach for Wolves star

Reports claim Chelsea held late talks with the agent of Wolves star Jorgen Strand Larsen. This comes before the transfer deadline but couldn’t push through a deal.

Wolves stand firm while Chelsea juggle options

Chelsea’s hunt for a forward went into panic mode as deadline day loomed. With Liam Delap sidelined by a hamstring blow, the club scrambled for a quick fix up front. That search led them to Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, a player already rated at around £70m.

Journalist Simon Phillips stated that Chelsea made contact with the player’s camp, to make the final move out. As it turns out Wolves had no intention of letting their star go. Additionally, they had turned down a few serious bids from Newcastle as well.

The timing couldn’t have been worse for Wolves either. They had already cashed in on Matheus Cunha to Manchester United losing last season’s top scorer. Letting another key forward walk out the door would have been worrying. Strand Larsen, who skipped Wolves’ 3-2 defeat to Everton amid rumours, was seen as too important to their survival in the PL. For Chelsea, the call was simply a shot in the dark.

Blues’ desperate hunt for a striker

While Wolves stood firm, Chelsea’s striker puzzle grew messy. Enzo Maresca weighed his options, even recalling youngster Marc Guiu from his Sunderland loan. The club also juggled Nicolas Jackson’s proposed move to Bayern. Eventually, Jackson still left for Germany in a deal worth over £70m, leaving fans scratching their heads.

Meanwhile, Wolves reinforced with Fer Lopez, Jhon Arias, and Tolu Arokodare. But, they remain bottom of the PL with no points from three games. Chelsea sit second, but the absence of a proven striker could quickly become a talking point if results dip. Strand Larsen might have been the missing piece, but the Blues left it far too late to pull the trigger.

Author’s Opinion:

Chelsea’s late dash for Strand Larsen feels more like chaos than strategy. The Blues had the whole window to solve their striker issue but risked on the final day. Wolves were firm on the stance and kept to it.
