Chelsea tracking Milan keeper once again

Chelsea will be given another opportunity to sign world class AC Milan keeper. The Frenchman looks set to walk away from Milan after contract talks collapsed.

Milan keeper edges closer to free exit, Chelsea interested

AC Milan’s top shot-stopper Mike Maignan is inching toward the exit door. This comes following his contract situation is showing no signs of progress. The Frenchman is now close to entering the final stretch of his deal. That means he can officially negotiate with clubs abroad from January.

As per Calciomercato, Milan’s attempts to extend his stay have reportedly hit a wall. That is leaving the Rossoneri lose one of their most valuable assets without collecting a single fee.

For Chelsea, this development reopens a door they knocked on earlier in the summer but couldn’t quite push through. Back then, talks didn’t materialize into a deal. Yet, Maignan’s current status puts the Blues in a far stronger position to pounce.

Blues’ golden chance

For Enzo Maresca’s side, Maignan represents the kind of signing that can instantly lift the squad. At 30, he’s at the peak of his goalkeeping powers. He has already proven himself as one of the most reliable keepers in Europe.

Compared to Robert Sanchez, the French keeper’s command of the box and consistency between the posts look like a major upgrade. The chance of landing a player of his caliber on a free is rare. The Blues won’t be the only giants circling.

PSG, Bayern, and several PL rivals are all likely to be tempted. Still, the west London side may hold an edge after their earlier approach. That could smoothen transfer talks if the player decides Stamford Bridge is his next stop.

Author’s Opinion:

If Chelsea are serious about returning to the top, they can’t hesitate this time. A free shot at Maignan doesn’t come around often, and letting him slip could haunt them for years.
