Arsenal have now joined the race for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.
Inter Milan star grabbing attention from Arsenal
Arsenal are considering making a move for Denzel Dumfries who looks set to leave Inter Milan for a new adventure. The player has publicly stated his desire to test himself in the PL, as per Fichajes. That said, eventually Arsenal could step in.
The Gunners have good defensive options already. But, head coach Mikel Arteta has a track record of wanting players who provide quality and versatility. Dumfries offers that as he can be employed as a right back but also play higher up the pitch as a wing back.
If an in-form Dumfries was to join Arsenal, he could strengthen the defence and in attack as well. The player will allow Arsenal to push high up into the opposition half. That is because he is comfortable and effective in getting forward from full back.
The north London club are making a squad to compete on every front. Dumfries is exactly the type of player Arteta wants in the dressing room to bring in the mentality.
Competition for a starting role
The issue for Arsenal will be whether they can guarantee the Dutchman the minutes he wants. He is in his prime and will not want to sit on the bench. Ben White has been dependable in the last couple of seasons.
Meanwhile, Jurrien Timber is back in the squad following injury as well. That requires Arsenal to then determine whether Dumfries is a guaranteed starter or another option in the rotation.
Author’s Opinion:
Dumfries would be a smart addition, but only if Arsenal can offer him regular minutes. At his age, he won’t come to north London to play as a backup. That could be the only and the biggest issue in this deal.
