Chelsea fans having doubts over Jamie Gittens

Chelsea fans completely divided on Jamie Gittens after England Under-21s performance.

Fans doubting Jamie Gittens at Chelsea

Jamie Gittens was back in the spotlight after being involved in England Under-21s’ 2-0 victory away at Kazakhstan. The Chelsea winger started alongside partner Josh Acheampong.

From a Blues perspective, this outing was useful. Gittens hasn’t been a nailed-down starter under Enzo Maresca since arriving from Dortmund. So, his 71 minutes in international colours was a timely runout. Still, his display didn’t silence doubters. On social media, Chelsea fans were clearly split. Some praised his lightning pace and fearless dribbling, while others felt his end product was lacking yet again.

The bigger picture is that Gittens already looks under pressure at Stamford Bridge. He’s failed to register a goal or assist in his first three PL games. The fans are beginning to question if he can handle the heat of playing for the Blues.

Meanwhile, Troy Deeney believes he’s got the right tools for the league. But, even he admits the winger must sharpen up in the final third. Against Kazakhstan, Gittens had flashes of brilliance but nothing decisive. That’s exactly why the debate among the Chelsea faithful is raging.

Competition heating up at the Blues

Gittens could not have chosen a worse time to move. The signing of Alejandro Garnacho at the Blues means the left-wing position is now a much busier position. He will have to respond to a higher level with the arrival of Garnacho.

Saturday’s clash against Brentford could give him another shot to prove he belongs. Until then, the Chelsea fanbase will remain split. They will be waiting for the moment when Gittens finally turns his promise into end product.

Author’s Opinion:

Gittens has too much talent to be discarded so early on. Once he gets his confidence in front of goal, he could be come a real weapon for Chelsea. Patience is the important thing, but time is already running out for him.
