Mikel Arteta laughs about Spurs sacking their manager, as reporter tries to take a dig at Arsenal.
Arteta unmoved by Spurs comparison
In his press conference ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Nottingham Forest, Mikel Arteta was asked about Ange Postecoglou’s track record. The Australian coach guided Tottenham to Europa League glory last season. But, he still found himself out of a job.
Now, he is back in the dugout with Forest. Postecoglou will face Arsenal this weekend in what promises to be a fiery battle. Asked if winning trophies was the ultimate measure of success, Arteta couldn’t resist pointing out the irony. He thinks that silverware isn’t always enough. The head coach pointed out that Spurs showed their ruthlessness by cutting ties despite a European triumph.
The Spaniard was unbothered by the question which was clearly thrown at him for his own poor trophy record at Arsenal.
The consistency of Arsenal is more compelling
For Arteta the broader view tells a different story. Though, Arsenal have not won a trophy since 2020. They have been competing for the PL title, finishing second for the past three seasons. Consistency is not enough, contrasted with Spurs, who have won the Europa league, then finished 17th in the league.
Arsenal are on a steady rise under Arteta. This is the start of building a team for long-term success, rather than a moment of sheer glory. The upcoming clash with Postecoglou adds spice, given the former Spurs boss’ poor record against Arsenal. He has no wins in his four meetings.
Forest are looking for a fresh start and the Gunners are chasing top spot. So, Saturday’s clash has all the makings of a good game.
Author’s Opinion:
Arteta handled the dig perfectly, showing confidence without getting dragged into a pointless debate. His laugh was the answer. Arsenal’s progress speaks for itself, and no comparison with Spurs is needed.
