Chelsea fans losing faith in Jamie Gittens following Brentford game

Chelsea fans are beginning to feel let down by Jamie Gittens after his performance against Brentford.

Fans worried after a shaky display by Gittens at Brentford

Chelsea walked into the clash with Brentford knowing three points could have taken them top of the table. Enzo Maresca’s men had momentum after wins over West Ham and Fulham, but the 2-2 draw felt like a setback.

Moises Caicedo’s strike seemed to have sealed victory before Fabio Carvalho’s late goal broke travelling fans’ hearts. Yet, the real story for fans wasn’t the scoreline. It was the poor impact of a player who was supposed to strengthen the squad. Jamie Gittens, brought in from Borussia Dortmund for nearly £50m, looked out of place in a game where others stepped up.

Gittens returned to the Blues with the promise of locking down the left flank. With Mudryk suspended and Sancho gone, the stage was his. Instead, he only had 17 touches, only two inside the opposition’s box, and created just one half-chance.

Pressure mounting on the youngster

Maresca has a reputation for trusting youth, but patience has limits when the team is chasing silverware. The West London side spent heavily in the summer, and fans expect signings to deliver straight away. Garnacho’s arrival also adds heat to the battle for the left-wing spot.

Now, on current form, Gittens looks like he could slide down the pecking order fast. The frustration among the fanbase is clear. They don’t see value in what was meant to be a key addition. At just 21, Gittens still has time to turn it around. But, in the PL spotlight, excuses don’t carry far.

Author’s Opinion:

Gittens has talent, but right now, he isn’t justifying the price tag. He needs urgency, sharper decision-making, and consistency. Otherwise, Chelsea fans won’t back him for long.
