Reports now suggest Chelsea could reignite their chase for Premier League midfielder when the transfer market reopens.
Chelsea keeping eyes on Premier League midfielder
Chelsea‘s missed opportunity for Xavi Simons in the summer has caused them to search in other options. Morgan Rogers has recently been seen as a strong contender.
The Aston Villa player has started to gain interest from major clubs. Rogers scored 17 and 17 assists in only 73 appearances for Villa. This is the exact profile they are looking for. They want a young, dynamic and established player in the league.
As per reports, funds have already been allocated for a key attacking signing. This comes despite the Blues spending over £280m in the last window. The club believes Rogers has the potential to become a long-term figure at the heart of their project. However, any deal won’t come cheap, given the fact that Villa tied him down to a contract until 2030.
Villa’s stance and Rogers’ rise
Aston Villa are not planning to sell their star player. Since joining in 2024, Rogers is a vital part of Unai Emery’s side. His first full season at Villa Park was encouraging.
That led to him being awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year award. He had 19 goals and assists during the league campaign. That sort of form has made him a fan favorite. He is a player that Villa see as important to their ambitions long-term.
The Midlands club will demand a hefty fee if Chelsea or any other giant comes calling. With his current form, Rogers is shaping up to be one of the most valuable midfielders in English football. For West London side, it’s a question of how far they’re willing to push to land him.
Author’s Opinion:
Morgan Rogers is exactly the type of player Chelsea and Enzo Maresca need. But, landing him from Aston Villa will be no easy task.
