Manchester United winger Ethan Williams has hailed the club’s pre-season tour to the USA as ‘life changing’. The 20-year-old striker, who netted his first senior goal in the recent 4-1 win over Bournemouth, has joined Falkirk on a season long loan deal to further his development in the Scottish Premiership with more regular first team action.
Rising Through the Ranks
Williams joined United’s youth system from Rochdale at under-14 level. He put pen to professional paper in June 2024 and caught the eye during United’s Premier League Summer Series. Williams was part of Ruben Amorim’s squad that travelled and played 15 minutes with a goal against Bournemouth – a huge moment in his career.
“Playing and scoring on tour was life-changing. Something I will never forget,” he said, praising the support from first-team players and fellow youngsters. The experience gave him confidence and motivation to push for regular senior minutes while learning from experienced teammates.
Loan Move to Falkirk
Prior to the loan, Ethan Williams had signed a contract extension with Manchester United – one that ties him to the club until 2028 – demonstrating their belief in his long-term ability. On 31 August 2025 he joined Falkirk for the season on loan, after having spent the previous six months at Cheltenham Town in which time he made seventeen appearances.
“The team wants to play aggressive football, which suits me as a winger. I’m proud to be here,” he added. He also credits Darren Fletcher, United’s U18 manager, for guidance. “Being up here and around it is a good thing, he’s someone looking to help me in my journey,” Williams said, noting how supportive teammates helped him settle quickly.
Author’s Opinion
Williams’ pathway is a testament to United prioritising youth development. Pre-season exposure under Amorim and a pair of loans at Cheltenham and Falkirk are also doing confidence wonders for him, just as rising ability. If he keeps developing at this pace, he’ll soon be one of the regulars in the first team squad, and United would have a young English winger with high potential to break into the domestic scene.
