Chelsea are weighing up a move for Maroan Sannadi from Athletic Bilbao. But, doubts remain about whether he’s the right fit for the Blues.
Bilbao forward linked with Chelsea move
Chelsea are showing interest in monitoring Athletic Bilbao forward Maroan Sannadi, as per Fichajes. The Moroccan talent is making name for his work ethic and position flexibility. But, the his numbers paint a different picture.
The player scored just one goal across all competitions last season. For a club that has spent heavily on emerging talents, this chase feels like another gamble. Chelsea fans have seen this before, players brought in for potential rather than proven pedigree. This often leaves the attack short of consistency.
The Premier League demands end product week in, week out. So, backing a forward who hasn’t yet found his stride looks like a roll of the dice.
Do the Blues need proven experience instead?
While Sannadi could turn out to be a late bloomer, the reality is Chelsea need sharper solutions up front. The squad is already filled with youthful promise under Enzo Maresca. But, that lack of seasoned experience is starting to show on big European nights.
Harry Kane noted after Bayern’s 3-1 win that it was “maturity” that made the difference. The Blues’ youthful group have skill, but yet to grind out results against the best in Europe.
The West London side need forwards who have proven records scoring at the top level. They want players who can jump right in, not trying to show they belong at the top level. Until then, the Blues’ fans will wonder if the club is going to do business the same way again.
Author’s Opinion:
Sannadi might have qualities coaches admire, but Chelsea need end product and leadership, not another project. The time has come to stop gambling and sign players who can deliver now.
