Chelsea and the PFA have given their response after holding talks on current situation of Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi.
PFA steps in for Sterling and Disasi
The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) recently met with Chelsea board after concerns over how Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi are being handled. The issue came to light when Sterling posted a late-night training photo. That sparked questions about whether the pair were being isolated from the main squad.
PFA chief Maheta Molango personally stepped in to check conditions for both players. Blues’ head coach Enzo Maresca has already made it clear the duo are not part of his plans. He explained that if players are not involved in the squad, they are kept fit separately until a solution is found.
In an interview, Maresca said: “I’ve been in Raheem and Axel’s situation as a player and for sure I know it is not the best feeling. For different reasons, the situation is the situation. The club is giving them the opportunity to work in the right way and that is all I can say.”
Both men had loan spells last season but failed to secure moves this summer, leaving them in limbo until January.
PFA sources have since confirmed they are satisfied with Chelsea’s arrangements. They stressed that Sterling and Disasi are being given proper training support and not forced into unfair conditions.
Training to stay ready for January
Chelsea are working with Sterling and Disasi on personal training regimes. These are designed to keep them sharp for possible exits in the next window. Meanwhile, Sterling is on a hefty wage packet with less than two years left on his deal. He prefers to stay in London but missed out on moves to Fulham or Arsenal-linked clubs.
On the other hand, Disasi is under contract until 2029. He drew interest from Bournemouth and Saudi side NEOM SC but neither deal advanced. For now, both are unlikely to feature in Maresca’s matchday squads. But, they remain part of the club’s plans to prepare them for the future.
Author’s Opinion:
Chelsea have handled a delicate situation sensibly. Keeping Sterling and Disasi fit while protecting their rights is smart, even if fans may never see them in blue again.
