Liverpool fear their defender could slip away for nothing, with Arsenal now circling for a surprise move.

Arsenal keeping eyes on Liverpool defender

Liverpool have started their season in full swing. Although, not everything is as smooth as the results suggest. The Reds are at the top of the points table. They are unbeaten and scoring freely. But, their defense could soon face a major blow.

Ibrahima Konate, who has become a key in Arne Slot’s lineup, is running down his contract. Reports claim he has already pushed aside new offers, keeping his options open for a possible move abroad.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are leading the chase to land him, with Bayern Munich also making their interest known. In addition, Konate’s camp is letting PL clubs know he’ll be available. That has put Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City on alert. For a player of his quality, walking away on a free transfer would sting the Anfield side.

Transfer plots heat up

The Gunners’ interest adds spice to an already tense situation. Arsenal are building a squad capable of challenging Liverpool and Man City for the title. Given that, taking away a key defender from a direct rival would be a statement. Chelsea’s and City’s lurking presence only increase the threat level, meaning Liverpool could face a fierce tug-of-war.

To make matters trickier, other targets have slipped through their grasp. Marc Guehi, once on their radar, now appears Madrid-bound. The Merseyside club is weighing up new deals for Ryan Gravenberch and keeping tabs on Kostas Tsimikas after his Roma spell.

With Konate’s deal ticking down, Reds’ defence is under the spotlight.

Author’s Opinion:

Letting Konate walk for free would be a huge error for Liverpool. That is especially with rivals circling. If they want to keep their title push strong beyond this season, tying him down should be the priority.
