Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has delivered a full update on his squad before Saturday’s lunchtime trip to Brentford. The Reds head to the capital aiming to build on last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea, with a key defensive boost confirmed.
Dalot returns but key absentees remain
Portugal’s Diogo Dalot is another option after recovering from an injury picked up while on international duty. He trained with the first-team group this week and should be lining up for contention at right wing-back.
However, United remain without Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui. Amad has been given compassionate leave following a family bereavement, while Mazraoui is sidelined until after the international break with a knock.
Amorim confirmed Dalot’s return in an MUTV interview, stating the team is in a “good moment” ahead of the clash. Casemiro is also suspended having been dismissed against Chelsea, and Lisandro Martinez remains sidelined recovering from knee surgery. Youngsters Jayden Ngwashi and Tyler Fletcher trained with the senior squad this week and could travel.
Brentford eyeing response at home
Brentford manager Keith Andrews has fitness decisions to make after last weekend’s 3-1 defeat to Fulham. Mikkel Damsgaard marked his return with a goal in that match and is pushing for a start, while Jordan Henderson looks set to anchor the midfield.
There are doubts over Reiss Nelson, who has recently resumed training after illness. Paris Maghoma is expected back next week, while Brazilian forward Gustavo Nunes continues to build fitness with Brentford B. Andrews will hope his determined young squad delivers at home.
Author’s view
Dalot’s return is a significant boost for United, especially with Mazraoui out and Casemiro suspended. Amorim’s side showed grit in their win over Chelsea, but Brentford at home are always dangerous. United must show consistency if they want momentum to build.
