Palmer ruled out for England camp due to injury

Cole Palmer set to miss England camp due to groin injury. The Chelsea forward is set for another spell on the sidelines. This is keeping him out of action for both club and country.

England will miss Cole Palmer during the international break

Chelsea have ruled out Cole Palmer for the upcoming international window. The club is refusing to risk his recurring groin problem. Head coach Enzo Maresca made it clear on Friday that the midfielder won’t play again until after the break. That has ended any chance of him lining up against Brighton, Benfica, or Liverpool in the next stretch of games.

The decision comes with long-term fitness in mind. That is especially as Palmer already missed last month’s England games with the same issue. England boss Thomas Tuchel will now have to plan without him for the Wales friendly on October 9. The player will miss the World Cup qualifier against Latvia five days later as well.

This isn’t the first setback for Palmer in national colors. Since Tuchel took charge earlier this year, the Chelsea playmaker has barely featured for the Three Lions.

No panic but frustration grows

While fans might fear the worst, Maresca has been firm in stressing that Palmer doesn’t need surgery. For Chelsea, it means going into a key run without one of their most creative sparks.

For England, it’s another international window without a player tipped to become a regular under Tuchel.
Currently, the West London side remain optimistic that the careful management can reduce the risk of further setbacks.

Palmer’s return date has been tentatively set. But, if he returns to play for the rest of the season will depend on how his body reacts in the next few weeks.

Author’s Opinion:

Palmer’s quality is clear but his continual absences are becoming a worrying pattern. For Chelsea and England to get the best out of him, patience and careful treatment must be taken first.
